Former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying he had formally communicated his resignation to his ward chairman.
The former governor, who also served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, said the decision followed extensive consultations and reflection on the current state of the party.

According to him, the persistent internal crisis, leadership disputes, and divisions within the PDP made it increasingly difficult for him to remain in the party.
Tambuwal noted that the PDP had played a significant role in his political career and expressed gratitude for the opportunities it provided for him to serve the country.
“The PDP has been a significant part of my political journey, and I remain grateful for the opportunities it gave me to serve our nation,” he said.
However, he said the ongoing challenges within the party had weakened the unity and direction that once defined it.
Tambuwal announced that he has now joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside his associates and supporters.
He said the decision was driven by his belief that Nigeria requires a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.
The former governor also reaffirmed his commitment to serving the country and upholding the ideals of democracy, justice, and national unity.
