FG Moves to Strengthen Coordination in Health Sector, Deepen Reforms
David Egbede,
The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening coordination within Nigeria’s health sector as part of ongoing efforts to accelerate healthcare delivery and align investments with national priorities.
The move was reaffirmed by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, during engagements with development partners and key stakeholders aimed at improving collaboration across the sector.
According to the ministry, enhanced coordination between government institutions, development partners, and other stakeholders will help ensure that resources and interventions are better aligned with the country’s healthcare needs.
As part of the strategy, stakeholders stressed the importance of strengthening existing coordination platforms such as Technical Working Groups and other structures under the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp). They also highlighted the need to deploy effective monitoring tools, including the RMET platform, to improve accountability, reduce duplication of efforts, and track the progress of ongoing health reforms.
Officials noted that the strengthened coordination framework is expected to support the implementation of key reforms within the health sector and improve service delivery nationwide.
Speaking on the initiative, Pate said the government remains focused on ensuring that investments in the sector deliver measurable outcomes for Nigerians.
“Strengthening coordination with development partners and stakeholders is critical to accelerating healthcare delivery and ensuring that investments align with Nigeria’s national health priorities,” he said.
Discussions during the meeting also focused on sustaining reforms and investments across the health system. Stakeholders emphasized the need to expand health insurance coverage, encourage greater private sector participation, and align federal, state, and partner-led initiatives.
The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare noted that these measures are aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s health system and ensuring that ongoing reforms deliver long-term impact.
