Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has called for a free, fair and transparent governorship election scheduled for August 15 in the state.
The governor also emphasized that the integrity of the ballot must be safeguarded throughout the electoral process.
Adeleke made the statement on Monday while receiving members of the Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives during an official visit to the Government House in Osogbo. Addressing the lawmakers, Governor Adeleke stated that the forthcoming poll represents a significant democratic exercise not only for Osun State but also for Nigeria’s broader electoral process.
He said ensuring that citizens’ votes were respected remained essential for strengthening democratic institutions in the country.
According to the governor, “Credible election is not optional but a compulsory process to safeguard the democratic system.”
Adeleke noted that the Osun governorship election would attract national and international attention as it is expected to be one of the last major elections before the 2027 general elections.
“For us in Osun State, August 15 is a critical phase for national democratic evolution. As the last major election before the general elections of 2027, Osun is in the eyes of the nation and the world,” he said.
The governor added that all stakeholders must ensure the process reflects the true will of the electorate through a free and fair voting process.
During the meeting, Adeleke also highlighted several projects executed by his administration.
He noted that governance in the state has focused on completing abandoned projects and initiating new ones across different sectors.
