Katsina to Sponsor Mass Wedding for 1,000 Couples

David Egbede, April 10, 2026

The Katsina State Government has begun preparations for a large-scale mass wedding programme, “Auren Gaya,” targeting 1,000 couples as part of efforts to promote family stability and social welfare.

The initiative, involving 2,000 individuals from across the state, is already in motion with screening and training underway for selected participants from various local government areas.

As part of the process, couples are undergoing mandatory premarital counselling organised by the Al-Usra Marital Support Foundation to equip them with essential knowledge for building successful homes.

Chairperson of the foundation, Murjanatu Ibrahim, said the sessions focus on roles and responsibilities in marriage, mutual understanding, and Islamic teachings.

Participants are being trained across three zones—Katsina, Daura, and Funtua—and must complete the programme to qualify.

“Without the certificate, they will not be part of the marriage programme,” she said.

Also speaking, Aminu Usman noted that the initiative will encourage discipline and strengthen family ties, especially for those unable to afford marriage.

“Those who intend to exploit the programme should know that they will sign undertakings, and we will monitor their homes,” he warned.

The state government will provide dowries and other support items, while the mass wedding—scheduled for April 25, 2026—marks the first phase of the programme, with more phases planned.
