The internal crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress has taken a new turn, with former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, accusing a factional leader of the party, Nafiu Bala Gombe, of compromising his integrity.
Melaye made the allegation during an appearance on the ‘MIC On’ podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, where he questioned Bala’s political moves in recent months.
“Nafiu Bala resigned from our party in May 2025. What happened to him between May and September 2025?” Melaye asked.
“Of course, he commercialised his conscience; he got induced by the ruling party.”
When pressed to substantiate the claim, Melaye maintained that the matter was already before the court and would be proven.
“We are in court; we will prove that, we will prove it 100 per cent,” he stated.
However, Bala has rejected the allegations, insisting he never resigned from the party. He claimed his signature was forged and reaffirmed his position as the party’s national chairman.
The dispute is part of a wider leadership struggle within the ADC, involving factions loyal to Bala and former Senate President David Mark.
The crisis has since escalated into legal battles, prompting the Independent National Electoral Commission to withdraw recognition of the party’s leadership structure and remove names linked to the Mark-led faction from its official portal.
In a related development, Bala had earlier approached a Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to restrain allies of Mark from presenting themselves as members of the party’s National Working Committee, while also urging the court to compel INEC to recognise him as acting national chairman.
