The administration of Donald Trump has applauded the Nigerian government for speeding up the prosecution of terrorism-related cases, following the conviction of 386 Islamist militants.

The commendation was shared in a statement posted on X by a senior advisor for Arab and African Affairs at the US Department of State, who described the development as a major milestone for Nigeria’s justice system.

According to the US official, the convictions represent a significant step toward accountability, especially in cases that had previously suffered prolonged delays in court.

The statement stressed the importance of timely and transparent legal processes in tackling extremism and boosting public trust in judicial institutions.

“The United States commends the Nigerian government for its strong commitment to expediting trials addressing terrorism and related crimes.

“We welcome the convictions of 386 Islamist militants in cases that had previously faced significant delays in the courts, and we recognize this as an important step toward accountability and justice,” the statement read.

The US also reaffirmed its support for Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen judicial efficiency and fairness, noting that respect for the rule of law remains vital for long-term security, stability, and safety nationwide.
