Transportation Minister Resigns to Contest Gombe Governorship Race

David Egbede, April 1, 2026

Said Alkali, minister of transportation, has resigned from his position to contest the 2027 governorship election in Gombe State.

In a statement released on Tuesday, his media aide, Umar Jibril, said the decision aligns with a presidential directive mandating all political appointees seeking elective offices to vacate their positions by March 31.

“The minister is resigning to contest for the governorship in the upcoming elections. In his letter, he expressed deep appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve, citing significant progress made in the transportation sector during his tenure,” the statement reads.

“The President has accepted the resignation and thanked the Minister for his dedicated service to the nation.”

Bola Tinubu had appointed Alkali as transportation minister on August 16, 2023, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s road, rail, and logistics infrastructure.
