The Plateau State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has conducted its party primaries in 15 out of the 17 local government areas ahead of the September 9 local government elections.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the primaries form part of the party’s preparations for the upcoming council polls in the state.
State Chairman of the party, Mrs. Hanatu Gagara, said the exercise was largely peaceful across most of the LGAs. However, the process did not take place in Mikang and Langtang South.
Gagara explained that the two councils missed the primaries because they purchased their nomination forms after the deadline had already expired.
She added that the situation might still be reconsidered following a recent communication from the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), which extended the deadline for party primaries.
According to her, the party leadership has only just received the notice and will review the development.
The ADC chairman expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the upcoming elections, describing it as a strong opposition force in Plateau State.
She noted that the party has presented capable candidates for both chairmanship and councillorship positions and revealed that several politicians from other parties are defecting to the ADC, indicating growing support.
Gagara also disclosed that the party’s electronic membership registration is ongoing across the state and urged members to verify their registration.
She encouraged both new and existing members to visit their ward and local government offices to complete or confirm their membership details.
