The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has donated farming equipment and agricultural inputs to farmers in Plateau State in a bid to strengthen food production and support local agricultural communities.
Yilwatda made the donation during a visit to farming communities in Pankshin Local Government Area, where he interacted with farmers from both Pankshin and Kanke Local Government Area and commended their efforts in sustaining agricultural activities in the state.
The APC chairman said the visit was aimed at seeing firsthand the work being done by farmers and identifying areas where support could help improve productivity.
As part of the intervention, he donated 100 solar-powered water pumping systems and 500 bags of improved rice seeds to farming communities across the two local government areas. The support, according to him, is intended to enhance irrigation and improve crop yields.
To further promote mechanised farming, Yilwatda also presented a tractor and two hand tillers to a farmers’ cooperative in the Fyer community, noting that access to modern farming equipment is key to improving efficiency and expanding agricultural output.
He also announced plans to establish two solar-powered water pumping boreholes to assist women engaged in farming across Plateau State, describing women farmers as vital contributors to food production and rural livelihoods.
Yilwatda reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives that empower farmers and strengthen the agricultural sector, saying increased support for local farmers would contribute to food security and economic development in the state.
