Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, on Wednesday held a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, amid renewed efforts to tackle the recent wave of violence in the state.
The governor arrived Aso Rock around 6:45pm, with discussions expected to focus on urgent security measures to curb further attacks.
The meeting follows the deadly Palm Sunday incident in Jos, where at least 27 people were reportedly killed, as well as another attack in Kahir village, Kaduna State, involving the killing and abduction of wedding guests.
Earlier, President Tinubu had strongly condemned the incidents, describing the attacks as “barbaric and cowardly,” and assuring Nigerians that those responsible would face justice.
“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village is a heartless coward,” Tinubu had said.
While denouncing the violence, the President also praised Governor Mutfwang’s efforts so far and directed security agencies to intensify operations against the perpetrators.
He further warned against portraying the attacks as religiously motivated, noting that such narratives could worsen tensions in the affected areas.
