The Nigerian Senate has directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to account for an alleged ₦210 trillion flagged in audit reports spanning 2017 to 2023.
The order was issued by the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, chaired by Aliyu Wadada, which gave the company until April 29, 2026, to appear before it.
The committee also mandated the Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, to lead key officials — including former GCEO Mele Kyari — to explain the discrepancies.
According to Wadada, the responses provided so far by the company were not satisfactory.
“This committee and, by extension, the Senate is not satisfied with blanket explanation given by NNPCL on N103 trillion which it said stands for liabilities,” he said.
“Specific amount of money spent on each of the three components, must be stated and explained.
“Detailed explanation is also expected to be given on the N107 trillion NNPCL said it expended on JVC cash call…”
The resolution followed a motion moved by Osita Izunaso and seconded by Adams Oshiomhole.
The Senate stressed that Nigerians deserve clear and detailed accountability, warning that the oil company must appear before the committee within the stipulated timeframe.
