The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it will challenge a judgment of the Court of Appeal which upheld the suspension of some of its national officers, including the party’s National Legal Adviser.
In a statement on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said the appellate court affirmed earlier decisions of the Federal High Court delivered by Justices James Omotosho and Inyang Ekwo Lifu.
The appellate panel, presided over by Justice Mohammed Ambi-Usi Danjuma, also dismissed an appeal challenging interlocutory orders issued by Justice Zainab Abdulmalik.
According to the PDP, the court’s decision effectively sustains the suspension of the party’s National Legal Adviser and, by extension, affects other officials including the National Secretary and the National Organising Secretary.
The party said it had begun consultations with its internal organs and had directed its legal team to immediately approach the Supreme Court of Nigeria to challenge the ruling.
Ememobong said the PDP believes the apex court will “expeditiously settle the matter in the interest of democracy.”
He also urged members of the party to remain calm and united, assuring them that the party remains committed to resolving the dispute through lawful means.
The PDP spokesperson further alleged that the party was facing internal challenges involving individuals it described as government agents posing as opposition figures.
