Despite claims of internal turmoil and fading relevance, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is showcasing unity and resolve at its 2026 National Elective Convention in Abuja, with delegates, leaders, and supporters emphasizing courage, discipline, and a forward-looking vision ahead of the 2027 elections.

Acting National Chairman Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed described the party’s strength as rooted in members’ courage and dedication, particularly during critical periods. Speaking at the event on Sunday, which was supported by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Mohammed urged party members to prioritize collective interests over personal ambition or office.

“No ambition is greater than this party. No office is worth weakening this platform,” he said, calling on delegates to contest with dignity, disagree respectfully, and organize inclusively for the benefit of both Nigeria and the PDP.

Mohammed highlighted the importance of lawful processes and unity, noting that recent judicial recognition of the caretaker leadership should not be seen as a victory or defeat for any individual. He described the convention as a systemic restoration of the party’s soul and a movement for inclusiveness, renewal, and lawful governance.

The acting chairman also praised the interventions of key party figures, including former Senate President Sen. Bukola Saraki, Alhaji Sule Lamido, Austen Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, George Turnah, and state chairmen, crediting them for sustaining the party’s momentum.

Senator Zainab Kure, in her goodwill message, echoed calls for reconciliation and expressed optimism that the PDP’s renewed focus on unity and lawful governance would guide the party toward stronger national leadership.

With delegates, party leaders, and supporters present, the convention is expected to set the tone for leadership decisions, policy discussions, and strategic planning ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling that the PDP remains a formidable political force despite lingering factional tensions.
