Lawmakers elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, at both the National and State Assembly levels, have endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in office.
The endorsement was contained in a communiqué issued after a stakeholders’ meeting of PDP-elected legislators from the state on Saturday.
The communiqué, signed by Senator Lere Oyewumi, also expressed full confidence in the leadership of the State Working Committee headed by Hon. Sunday Bisi.
The lawmakers said their decision followed a review of the governor’s performance, particularly in infrastructure development, workers’ welfare, healthcare delivery, education, and what they described as the consolidation of democratic governance in the state.
They noted that continuity was necessary to sustain ongoing reforms and ensure political stability. Beyond endorsing the governor, the legislators reaffirmed their support for the state PDP leadership under Bisi, describing the party structure as cohesive and focused.
The meeting also addressed the ongoing local government crisis in the state, with the lawmakers alleging that members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were illegally occupying local government secretariats despite court rulings nullifying their elections.
Part of the communiqué read: “That the illegal diversion of local government allocations that are public funds into private pockets is also condemned by all members present.
“The continued withholding of Local Government allocations due to Osun State is causing avoidable hardship for teachers, nurses, healthcare workers, Local Government civil servants, retirees, and traditional institutions at the grassroots. Funds meant for the people must not be politicised or subjected to extraneous interference.”
The lawmakers, however, called on residents of Osun State to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and steadfast in the defence of democracy and good governance. There was no response from the APC regarding the claims as of the time of filing this report.
