“No Room for Indiscipline”: Wike-Backed PDP Faction Sets Conditions for Return as 2027 Race Begins Early Push

Soliu Oyesiji, April 20, 2026April 20, 2026

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has thrown open the door for aggrieved members to return, but only under strict conditions of discipline, loyalty, and adherence to party structure as the party begins early mobilisation for the 2027 elections.

Party leaders, however, stressed that reconciliation would not come at the expense of order, warning that unity must be matched with responsibility and respect for internal rules.

The position was made clear on Monday in Abuja during the 87th meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), where senior figures gathered to assess internal stability and chart a path forward.Chairman of the BoT, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, led the charge for unity, describing it as essential to the survival and progress of the party.

“Unity must now be our watchword,” Ohuabunwa said, urging members across all levels to close ranks and focus on rebuilding trust.

He noted that the party’s 2026 National Convention had helped stabilise internal tensions and should serve as a foundation for renewed cohesion rather than fresh divisions.

“We must ensure that the gains of the Convention are not lost to division, misunderstanding, or avoidable conflict,” he warned.

Ohuabunwa also emphasised the role of the BoT as the moral anchor of the party, saying it must safeguard its values and long-term direction.

At the same time, he cautioned against complacency, insisting that the real task of rebuilding the party was only beginning.

He also referenced ongoing internal reforms, including e-registration, describing them as key to transparency and modernisation. In his remarks, National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman Takushara reinforced the unity message but took a firmer stance on discipline within the ranks.

He warned that internal grievances must not be played out in the public space.

“Internal grievances must be channelled through the proper constitutional organs, not the pages of newspapers,” he said.

Takushara also declared that loyalty to party decisions would not be optional going forward.

“Loyalty to the party’s decisions is non-negotiable,” he stated. While extending an olive branch to dissatisfied members, he made it clear that reconciliation must come with commitment and a shared sense of purpose.

“The road to 2027 does not begin next year; it begins today,” he said, adding that preparations would focus on strengthening grassroots structures and adopting data-driven mobilisation strategies.
