Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun East Senatorial District have unanimously endorsed Governor Dapo Abiodun as their consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.
The endorsement was announced on Monday at a gathering held at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode, where party leaders, grassroots representatives and political office holders across the district converged.
The meeting drew members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, former and serving local government chairmen, past and present lawmakers at both state and national levels, councillors from all wards, as well as women and youth leaders.
Speaking on behalf of stakeholders, former senator Lekan Mustapha said the decision was based on a shared belief in Abiodun’s capacity to effectively represent the district at the Senate.
He disclosed that party leaders would formally convey the endorsement to the governor, including a commitment to purchase his nomination forms ahead of the election.
“We will put a body together to deliver this message to our governor that he has been adopted as the consensus candidate,” Mustapha said.
Also speaking, Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, described the endorsement as historic, noting that Abiodun’s record in governance and party unity justified the decision.
A member of the House of Representatives, Femi Ogunbanwo, said the governor’s administration had promoted peace and development across the state, expressing confidence that he would deliver more dividends of democracy at the national level.
Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Afolabi Odulate, also commended the governor’s performance and urged him to accept the senatorial bid.
The event witnessed participation from all 103 councillors across the nine local governments in Ogun East, alongside youth leaders and grassroots mobilisers.
Other prominent figures at the meeting included former senator Gbenga Kaka, Ogun East APC Chairman Adedoyin Adeleke, and party elders such as Kola Ogunjobi, Bayo Dayo and Durojaye.
Members of the House of Representatives from the district, Adesola Elegbeji, Joseph Adegbesan and Ogunbanwo were also present, signalling broad-based support for Abiodun’s anticipated senatorial ambition.
