Tinubu Approves Ogun Campus for Nigeria Police Academy, Releases N15bn for Take-Off

Soliu Oyesiji, April 20, 2026April 20, 2026

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, alongside a N15 billion take-off grant to support its development.

The approval was disclosed on Monday in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the new campus will operate under the framework of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which provides for the expansion of the academy beyond its main campus in Wudil, Kano State.

The N15 billion intervention fund, to be drawn from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) 2026 allocation, will be used for the development of key infrastructure, academic buildings, student hostels, and essential training facilities.

The decision to site the campus in Erinja followed recommendations from a high-level consultative meeting involving the Minister of Police Affairs, Minister of Education Tunji Alausa, officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The meeting considered factors including student intake capacity, funding availability, academic quality assurance, and the increasing manpower requirements of the Nigeria Police Force, which is currently expanding its recruitment drive.

The new campus is expected to strengthen police training capacity and improve access to professional policing education across different regions of the country.
