The Nigerian Army has opened applications for the Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 29/2026, inviting suitably qualified Nigerians to apply for commission into the officer cadre.
The announcement was made on Tuesday through the Nigerian Army’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. The DSSC programme is open to civilians as well as serving military personnel who possess recognized professional qualifications and are interested in contributing their expertise to national defence.
The Direct Short Service Commission allows professionals to be recruited into specialised units of the Nigerian Army, where they will provide technical, medical, engineering, and educational support essential to military operations across the country. Successful applicants will be trained and commissioned as officers in roles relevant to their areas of specialization.

These corps play vital roles in sustaining operational effectiveness and supporting internal security efforts.
The Army stressed that the application process is completely free and must be completed online via the official recruitment portal. Applications will be accepted from January 7 to February 4, 2026, and prospective candidates are advised to submit their applications early to avoid technical delays.
Applicants are also urged to carefully review the eligibility criteria and ensure that all submitted information is accurate, as errors or omissions may result in disqualification. The Nigerian Army further cautioned the public against fraudsters, reiterating that it does not charge fees at any stage of the recruitment process.
