David Egbede, January 7, 2026

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of three brothers from the state who lost their lives in the Lagos Island fire outbreak on Christmas Eve 2025.

The fire engulfed the 25-storey Great Nigeria Insurance (GNI) House on Martins Street, Lagos Island, on December 24, 2025, turning what should have been a festive occasion into a moment of profound grief.

In a condolence message released by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo described the incident as a painful tragedy and commiserated with the families of all the victims.

He said he was particularly devastated by the loss of the three Omatu brothers-Steve (40), Casmir (39), and Collins (37) from the Uzoakwa community in Ihiala Local Government Area, describing them as hardworking young men whose deaths were a great loss to both their family and Anambra State.

The governor also praised the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the Lagos State Fire Service, and other responders for their swift efforts in rescuing victims and containing the blaze.

He urged Anambra residents living in Lagos and other parts of the country to always prioritize personal safety over property during fire incidents, and prayed for God to grant the bereaved families strength while asking that the souls of the departed rest in peace.
