Tension escalated in Angwan Rukuba community, Jos North LGA of Plateau State, as women staged a protest to stop the planned mass burial of victims of the recent deadly Palm Sunday attack.
The women, joined by some youths, marched through the area carrying leaves and chanting songs before blocking the entrance of the church where the burial was scheduled.

Their action followed reports that three youths from the community were arrested by security operatives in connection with investigations into the killings. The protesters demanded their immediate and unconditional release before any burial could take place.
The situation was later brought under control after intervention by community youth leaders.

The protest comes days after gunmen attacked the Gari Ya Waye area of Angwan Rukuba on Palm Sunday night, killing over 28 people and injuring several others after opening fire on residents.
Following the incident, Bola Tinubu visited the state, sympathised with victims’ families, and directed security agencies to apprehend those responsible. He also ordered the deployment of over 5,000 AI-powered CCTV cameras to strengthen surveillance.
Meanwhile, Caleb Mutfwang assured residents that justice would be served, describing the attack as a calculated attempt to destabilise the state and reaffirming his administration’s commitment to restoring peace.
Calm has since returned to the community, with funeral activities for the victims now ongoing.
