Gunmen have killed a police officer and abducted a Chinese expatriate following an attack on a company, Aqua Triton located in Ibadan, Oyo state.
Police authorities said the assailants stormed the facility on Friday, and engaged security operatives attached to the company.
A police officer was fatally shot during the confrontation, while some of the attackers were believed to have been wounded.
Despite the resistance, the gunmen escaped with a Chinese national described as the company’s principal officer.
Police spokesman Olayinka Ayanlade said the incident was promptly reported to the state’s Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, who ordered the assistant commissioner of police in charge of operations to deploy the anti-kidnapping squad and other tactical teams to the area.
The PPRO disclosed that a bush-combing operation was ongoing, while a full-scale investigation has been launched to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted expatriate and the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
The Oyo State Police Command assured residents that it remained committed to restoring calm in the area and urged members of the public to provide useful information that could aid ongoing operations.
