Ghana Sack Otto Addo After Back-to-Back Defeats Ahead of 2026 World Cup

David Egbede, March 31, 2026March 31, 2026

The Ghana Football Association has dismissed Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, just three months before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, leaving the team in uncertainty at a crucial stage of preparations.

The decision was announced in a statement released early Tuesday, shortly after Ghana’s 2-1 friendly defeat to Germany at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart.

The loss came on the heels of a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria last Friday, sealing Addo’s fate.

“The decision takes immediate effect,” the GFA stated, adding that a “new technical direction” for the national team would be unveiled soon.

Addo managed the Black Stars for two years and 16 days, recording eight wins, five draws, and nine losses during his tenure.
