Enugu ADC Halts Congresses Over INEC’s Derecognition of Mark, Aregbesola

David Egbede, April 9, 2026April 9, 2026

The Enugu State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it has temporarily suspended its planned Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses, following the current situation in the party.

The state Chairperson of the party, Mrs Stella Chukwuma, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu, on Thursday.

Chukwuma, however, confirmed that mobilisation and registration of members across the state was still ongoing.

“For now, we have suspended the ward, local government and state congresses in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) directive, until there is a directive from our national headquarters.

“However, other activities of the party in the state remain the same, including mobilisation, registration of new members, realignment, and coalition, among others,” she said.

Chukwuma also disclosed that INEC had deleted all information relating to correspondences from the embattled National Chairman and National Secretary of the party, Sen. David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

“So, it is as bad as that. We cannot continue with the congresses for now, until the issue is resolved,” she said.

She expressed joy that ADC was gradually becoming the rallying point for the opposition parties in Enugu State.
