The Edo State Police Command has arrested 18-year-old Obehi Odine for allegedly staging her own kidnapping. The arrest is part of a broader operation in which 11 other suspects were detained for their alleged involvement in a kidnapping syndicate.
According to a statement from the state command’s Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, exhibits, including firearms, were recovered during the operations.
The statement said Odine demanded a ransom of ₦10 million. She reportedly confessed to fabricating the incident, admitting it was orchestrated to extort money.
The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by the Edo Police to crack down on kidnapping and related criminal networks in the state.
Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, emphasizing that the command is committed to ensuring public safety.
