ASUU FUTMINNA Warns Against Niger State Attempt to Seize Bosso Campus

David Egbede, March 5, 2026

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) has raised alarm over what it described as an “unlawful and desperate” attempt by the Niger State Government to claim the university’s Bosso Campus.

In a statement signed by Prof. Luqman ‘Kunle Oyewobi, Chairperson of ASUU FUTMINNA Branch, the union urged the Federal Government, National Assembly, and other stakeholders to intervene and protect the campus, which it said is legally a federal property.

“The Bosso Campus is not an expendable parcel of land. It is our academic workspace, research and learning environment, and importantly, our home. Any disruption will directly affect thousands of students, staff, and ongoing academic programmes,” Oyewobi stated.

ASUU emphasized that the campus, established by federal law in 1983, was fully transferred from Niger State to the Federal Government through proper payment and agreement, making any attempt by the state government to reclaim it a violation of federal law.

The union also dismissed claims by the Niger State Government that the campus was leased temporarily, calling the assertion historically and legally inaccurate.

“Universities must remain insulated from political interference. We call on Niger State to exercise restraint and engage in constructive dialogue rather than unilateral action,” Oyewobi added.

“The protection of federal universities is not a partisan issue; it is a national responsibility, and we remain committed to defending the integrity and autonomy of FUTMINNA.”
