Army Dismisses Ex-Soldier Olamilekan’s Claims as “False and Misleading”

The Nigerian Army has debunked allegations made by a dismissed ex-soldier, Lance Corporal Rotimi Olamilekan, popularly known as “Soja Boi,” describing his claims about poor welfare, salaries, and lack of equipment as “sensationalised and inaccurate.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Army clarified that Olamilekan was not dismissed for “speaking the truth,” but due to repeated acts of indiscipline and violations of military regulations.

The statement noted that “he was dismissed following persistent and grave acts of indiscipline, including violations of the Armed Forces Social Media Policy,” adding that his removal from service followed due process in line with established military laws.

Addressing concerns about soldiers’ welfare and pay, the Army maintained that its remuneration system is structured and transparent, with salaries based on rank and years of service. It added that personnel also receive various allowances.
According to the statement, “in addition to consolidated monthly salaries, personnel are entitled to uniform allowances and other allowances, which are periodically paid directly into their accounts.”

The Army further explained that troops deployed for operations receive additional benefits such as Ration Cash Allowance, Habit Allowance, and operational allowances, especially those serving in missions like Operation HADIN KAI in the North East.

Reacting to claims that soldiers purchase their own uniforms and protective gear, the Army described the allegation as entirely false.

“The provision of uniforms, kits, arms, ammunition, and operational gear is an institutional responsibility executed through established logistics systems,” the statement said.

It added that no soldier is sent to the battlefield without proper protective equipment, stressing that claims suggesting otherwise are “reckless” and capable of undermining troop morale and public confidence.

The Army urged Nigerians to disregard the allegations, describing them as attempts to mislead the public and generate sympathy.

“The public is requested to disregard these baseless allegations… Citizens are urged to refrain from amplifying unverified claims that may undermine these institutions,” the statement added.

Reaffirming its commitment to national security and personnel welfare, the Nigerian Army also called on the media to verify information from credible official sources before publication.
