The Abia State Police Command has dismissed a viral video alleging that 488 Boko Haram terrorists were arrested in the state, describing the claim as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command clarified that the footage being circulated is an old broadcast from over 11 years ago and does not reflect the current security situation in Abia.
Police spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, urged residents to remain calm and continue their lawful activities without fear, assuring them of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
The Command also warned against the spread of unverified information, stressing that those found culpable would face legal consequences.
“The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, warns against the dissemination of false information intended to cause fear or civil unrest.
“Any individual found culpable will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with Section 59 of the Criminal Code Act and the Cybercrime (Prohibition/Prevention) Act,” the statement read.
