Blackout: Adeleke Summons IBEDC, Promises Support for Rainstorm Victims

David Egbede, April 2, 2026April 2, 2026

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has summoned the management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company over the persistent blackout affecting Osogbo and other major towns in the state.

Describing the situation as unbearable, the governor said the outages are crippling daily life and economic activities across Osun.

“I have received widespread complaints from all our major towns. Businesses are grinding to a halt. We cannot continue like this,” he said.

Adeleke noted that IBEDC has been invited for a consultation to find immediate and lasting solutions to the power crisis.

“As much as we know that the power sector is capital intensive and despite the fact that the matter is a national challenge, Osun is suffering a lot. We must work together with IBEDC for a short term solution,” he added.

He also revealed plans for long-term reforms, including the implementation of the Osun Electricity Law and the establishment of a regulatory commission to oversee the state’s power sector.

Meanwhile, the governor assured victims of recent rainstorms of government support, directing affected residents to submit their details for assistance.

He added that the state is working with National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Economic Council to mobilise additional aid.
