2027: Kwankwaso Meets Makinde in Ibadan

David Egbede, February 26, 2026

Former New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, held a closed-door meeting with Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, on Wednesday in Ibadan, the state capital.

The two-hour meeting took place at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan.

Reports indicate that the former Kano State governor has been engaging in wide consultations following the defection of his political protégé and current governor, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso was accompanied by the NNPP National Chairman, Dr Ajuji Ahmed; the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson; and the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Buba Galadima, along with other senior party officials.

The delegation reportedly visited Oyo State to inaugurate the NNPP state office and discuss internal party affairs.

Speaking briefly to reporters after the session, Kwankwaso described the meeting as a friendship visit rather than a political engagement.

“This visit is more about personal friendship than party politics. Governor Makinde and I have known each other for a long time. Before proceeding to our party engagement in the state, I felt it was proper to pay him a courtesy call,” he said.
