Over 20 women’s groups from across Nigeria converged at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to deliberate on strategies for improving healthcare provision for women. Coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Health, the meeting aims to strengthen collaboration and ensure that women’s voices are central in shaping national health policies.
The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Women’s Health, Dr. Adanna Steinacker, noted the importance of the gathering. “Bringing together civil society organisations, community groups, professionals, and grassroots leaders allows us to identify real challenges and design practical solutions that directly impact women in their communities,” she said.
Discussions focused on coordinating interventions, sharing resources, and enhancing the effectiveness of healthcare programs. Participants explored ways to improve maternal health, reproductive health, and other critical issues affecting women nationwide.
Dr. Steinacker also highlighted that the meeting is part of the RenewHER Presidential Women’s Health Transformation Initiative, which seeks to prioritize women’s health issues and translate policy frameworks into tangible benefits for women across Nigeria. Officials emphasised that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to engaging women directly and ensuring that national health policies respond to their specific needs.
