The U.S. Embassy Abuja has signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ilorin Innovation Hub, marking its first public-private partnership outside the American Spaces Network.

The agreement, announced in Abuja on Thursday, is aimed at strengthening engagement in Kwara State’s growing technology ecosystem, with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI), STEM education, and professional development.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Public Diplomacy Counselor Lee McManis described the partnership as “an important milestone,” noting that it would help advance innovation-driven trade and investment opportunities between the United States and Nigeria.

“Kwara State is emerging as a hub for technology and innovation, and American companies are already exploring opportunities to compete and collaborate in this space,” he said.

Under the agreement, both parties will roll out programmes designed to showcase U.S. leadership in technology, while providing training in business English, STEM fields, and skills development tailored to global industry standards.

McManis added that the initiative underscores a broader commitment to shared growth.

“This reflects our shared belief that innovation, education, and opportunity are the foundations of a safer, stronger, and more prosperous future for both our countries,” he said.

The partnership is expected to deepen collaboration between U.S. institutions and Nigeria’s tech sector, particularly in emerging innovation clusters outside major commercial centres.
