The government of the United Kingdom has released the official programme for the state visit of Bola Ahmed Tinubu scheduled to hold from March 17 to 19.
According to the itinerary, the Nigerian president’s visit will be hosted at Windsor Castle and will feature bilateral meetings, ceremonial engagements, and interactions with members of the Nigerian diaspora in the UK.
Preparations for the visit are set to begin on March 17, including security sweeps, road closures and rehearsal of the ceremonial procession ahead of Tinubu’s arrival.
Tinubu is expected to officially arrive on March 18, where he will be received by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.
A ceremonial welcome will then take place on Datchet Road, featuring the playing of the national anthems and a formal guard inspection.
The president will afterwards proceed in a carriage procession to Windsor Castle where he will be formally received by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Officials say the visit is expected to strengthen diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom while also providing an opportunity for engagements with Nigerians living in the country.
“The visit will include bilateral meetings, ceremonial events and engagements with members of the Nigerian diaspora,” the UK government stated in the released programme.
Another statement noted that preparations would involve “security sweeps, road closures and procession rehearsals ahead of the president’s arrival.”
