‘This is not the Football we Fight For’ — Sadio Mané Reacts to AFCON 2025 Ruling

David Egbede, March 18, 2026March 18, 2026

Senegalese football star Sadio Mané has issued a strong statement expressing his disappointment over recent developments in African football.

“What happened has gone too far. This is not the football we fight for, not the Africa we believe in,” Mané said.

He condemned what he described as pervasive corruption in the sport, noting that off-field decisions are determining the outcomes of matches and trophies, despite players giving their all on the pitch.

“I’m deeply disappointed not just for Senegal, but for African football as a whole. We deserve better. The fans deserve fairness, transparency, and respect,” Mané added.

His statement comes in the wake of the controversial decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeals Board to award Morocco the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title following Senegal’s walkout in the final.

Mané’s remarks have drawn widespread attention, highlighting growing frustration among players and fans over governance and integrity issues in African football.
