Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez has argued that fan rivalry plays a key role in keeping Afrobeats stars Wizkid and Davido relevant, even after nearly two decades in the industry.
In an interview with YouTuber Korty EO, he said that while artists themselves can maintain friendly relationships, competition among their fanbases should not be discouraged.
According to him, the ongoing tension between fans helps sustain both artists’ visibility and popularity. He suggested that without such rivalry, their influence could decline.
“Wizkid and Davido can never fade. That rivalry is what will keep them relevant forever. If everything becomes love, it’s over. Artists can get along, but the fans shouldn’t,” he said.
Blaqbonez added that fan-driven competition keeps artists in the spotlight and noted that he personally embraces rivalry, describing himself as highly competitive.
