PDP Under Turaki Establishes Caretaker Committees Across Five States

David Egbede, January 16, 2026January 16, 2026

The Tanimu Turaki led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted caretaker committees to oversee the party’s affairs in Delta, Enugu, Imo, Rivers and Osun states.

The appointments followed the dissolution of the PDP’s state chapters in the affected states after their governors defected from the party. The dissolved state executives were widely regarded as loyal to the former PDP governors.

The move also underscores the party’s ongoing internal divisions. Last month, a rival PDP faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, inaugurated a 19-member caretaker committee for the party in Lagos State.

The Wike-backed National Working Committee (NWC), led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed as national chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as national secretary, had earlier announced the dissolution of state executive councils in several states, including Lagos.

However, the national organising secretary of the Turaki-led PDP, Theophilus Dakas Shan, said on Wednesday that the newly appointed caretaker committees were constituted by the party’s NWC on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025, as amended).

According to the statement, Professor Sylvester Monye was named chairman of the caretaker committee in Delta State, with Dr. Michael Tidi, Esq., serving as secretary of the 11-member committee. In Enugu State State, the nine-member Caretaker Committee is chaired by Barr. Steve Oruruo with Martin Ugwuamadieze as secretary.

For Imo State, Chief John Jude Okere is chairman of the nine-member Caretaker Committee with Mr. Magnus Amadi as secretary.

In Rivers State, the nine-member Caretaker Committee is led by Ogbam Ojimah as chairman, while Dr. Field Baribeful Nkor is secretary.

The seven-member Osun State Caretaker Committee is chaired by Hon. Tunde Tijani with Hon. Bamidele Seyi-Abiola as secretary.

“The Committees are charged with the responsibility of managing the affairs of the Party in their respective States, as stipulated in Section 21(2)(a-b) of the PDP Constitution. The tenure of these committees shall not exceed 90 days, or until such a time as a new Executive Committee is elected.

“In carrying out this assignment, Committee members must be strictly guided by: The PDP Constitution (2025 as amended); The Electoral Act, 2022; and The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended),” the statement added.
