A 37-year-old man, Opeyemi Olaniyan, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing Ayomide Oyekunle to death during a dispute at a beer parlour in Agbado, Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State.
According to reports, the suspect attacked the victim on the hand and stomach with a broken bottle while confronting him over a debt of N25,000. Oyekunle was rushed to Strong Tower Hospital, Giwa Oke Aro, but tragically died while receiving treatment.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi said the case was reported by the debtor and that the suspect is now in custody.
The deceased’s body has been taken to Life Channel Morgue, Olambe, for autopsy.
Babaseyi explained: “On Saturday at about 11:30 pm, Oriade Kehinde reported that Opeyemi Olaniyan came to demand N25,000 owed since last year. When no immediate response was given, he became violent, broke a bottle, and stabbed Ayomide Oyekunle on the hand and stomach while trying to prevent him from entering the bar. The suspect has been arrested and is under police investigation.”
The police spokesperson added that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
