The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has refuted allegations that student loan funds were diverted at the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), stating that there is no verified evidence to support the claims circulating in sections of the media.
In a statement issued on Friday by its Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Fund said it had taken note of the reports but found no established proof indicating that the university diverted, misappropriated, or unlawfully withheld any disbursements.
“NELFUND wishes to state clearly that, as of this moment, there is no verified evidence before the Fund establishing that the University of Abuja has diverted, misappropriated, or unlawfully withheld NELFUND disbursements,” the statement read in part.
The Fund explained that it operates a structured disbursement and reconciliation framework in line with its statutory mandate, ensuring that funds are tracked and properly accounted for. It added that established oversight mechanisms are in place to promote transparency and accountability in the management of student loans.
NELFUND reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the student loan scheme, stressing that any credible evidence of misconduct would be thoroughly investigated in accordance with due process.
