Nigeria on Wednesday paid its final respects to Late Brigadier General Omo Braimah, Captain Ismail and other fallen troops, who were laid to rest with full military honours at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The solemn ceremony, held on April 15, 2026, brought together senior government officials, military leaders, grieving families and comrades in a display of national mourning and gratitude for the sacrifices of the departed officers.
The fallen soldiers were honoured for their service and bravery in the line of duty, as their remains were interred amid military rites that underscored the nation’s appreciation for their commitment to defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
Among those in attendance were Governor Babagana Zulum, Minister of Defence Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, and other senior military officials.In their tributes, the service chiefs and government representatives described the deceased as courageous patriots who paid the ultimate price in defence of the nation, noting that their sacrifice would remain a lasting symbol of honour and duty.
They said the officers stood firm in the face of danger and demonstrated unwavering commitment to national security, adding that their legacy would continue to inspire personnel of the Armed Forces.
Citizenship prayers were offered for the repose of their souls, while military citations detailing their service records were presented to their next of kin during the emotional ceremony.
The burial highlighted the human cost of ongoing security operations, even as officials reaffirmed commitment to strengthening efforts to safeguard peace and stability across the country.
