Kebbi: ADC Responds to Malami’s Return, Pledges Showdown with APC

The Kebbi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reacted to the return of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, after his release from custody, calling for calm among supporters while expressing concern over the wider implications of his legal troubles.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Publicity Secretary, Habibu Abubakar Sambo, the party said Malami’s return to the state, which coincided with a gathering of supporters, reflected enduring public confidence in justice and due process despite the controversies surrounding his case.

The ADC, however, used the moment to stress restraint, calling on its members and residents to remain peaceful and committed to democratic values amid heightened political tensions in the state.

“The return marks the end of a challenging period and reaffirms the hope that justice and due process will prevail,” the statement said, while also commending Malami’s “patience, dignity, and composure” during his time in custody.

The party also took a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, vowing to challenge its leadership in the state and prevent what it described as governance “blunders” ahead of future political contests.

Malami’s reappearance in Kebbi comes against the backdrop of ongoing legal proceedings. The former minister is facing multiple charges, including alleged terrorism financing, illegal possession of firearms, as well as an N8.7 billion fraud and money laundering case.

At the latest hearing on Monday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, prosecution witnesses testified on financial transactions linked to a hotel account and loan facilities.

Malami appeared in court alongside his wife, with their son joining proceedings shortly before the matter was stood down briefly.

The cases are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
