Kano Deputy Governor Reportedly Resigns

David Egbede, March 28, 2026March 28, 2026

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, has reportedly resigned from his position, according to a statement issued by the Kwankwasiyya Movement, although the state government is yet to officially confirm the development.

In the statement signed by its spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, the group noted that the decision followed careful consideration and was made in the interest of preserving stability in the state’s governance.

The movement explained that prevailing circumstances had hindered the deputy governor from effectively discharging the full responsibilities of his office.

“This decision, though difficult, has been taken in the overall interest of the people and the stability of governance in Kano State,” the statement said.

The development comes amid allegations raised against the deputy governor by the Kano State House of Assembly. However, the group emphasised that his resignation should not be seen as an admission of guilt.

“The Deputy Governor maintains his innocence and firmly believes that his records in office and public service remain a testament to his integrity and commitment to the people,” the statement added.

It further revealed that the former deputy governor plans to focus on strengthening the Kwankwasiyya Movement, particularly in terms of restructuring and strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State government has yet to issue any official confirmation or response regarding the reported resignation.
