The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed the nomination of Murtala Sule Garo as Deputy Governor of Kano State following his screening and approval by lawmakers on Monday.
The confirmation came after the presentation and adoption of the report of an ad-hoc committee constituted to screen the nominee during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
Presenting the report, the chairman of the ad-hoc committee and Deputy Speaker of the House, Muhammad Bello, said the nomination became necessary following the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.
He explained that the screening was conducted in line with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers a State House of Assembly to approve a replacement where a vacancy occurs in the office of Deputy Governor.
According to Bello, the nominee underwent a detailed screening exercise that included a question-and-answer session covering his educational background, professional experience, understanding of governance, and development vision for the state.
He added that the committee also verified Garo’s credentials and found him fit for the position.
“The nominee demonstrated a clear understanding of the responsibilities of the office of Deputy Governor and articulated a workable vision to support the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in delivering its mandate,” he stated.
Following deliberations, the committee recommended his confirmation, a position that was unanimously adopted by members of the House.
The Speaker thereafter put the recommendation to a voice vote, which received unanimous approval from the lawmakers, formally confirming Garo as the Deputy Governor of Kano State.
The Assembly also reiterated its commitment to working with the executive arm of government to promote good governance, accountability, and socio-economic development in the state.
