Aletheia University VC Charges New Students on Discipline, Excellence at Matriculation

Soliu Oyesiji, April 27, 2026

The Vice-Chancellor of Aletheia University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, has urged newly admitted students of the institution to shun indiscipline, uphold integrity, and remain committed to academic excellence as they begin their studies.

Akinyemi gave the charge during the university’s third matriculation ceremony, which formally admitted 264 students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

According to a statement on Monday by the university’s spokesperson, Ayodele Maraiyesa, the Vice-Chancellor said the institution, which received its operational licence in June 2023, began with 17 programmes and 33 pioneer students, but has since expanded significantly.

“Today, we are admitting students across our colleges: 41 in Arts, Management and Social Sciences; six in Engineering; 40 in Science and Information Technology; 131 in Medical and Allied Health Sciences; and 46 in Law,” he said.

He added that the university has grown from 17 to 34 approved programmes across six colleges, with accreditation from the National Universities Commission (National Universities Commission) and relevant professional bodies, including the Council of Legal Education and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

Akinyemi noted that the institution is strengthening its academic and administrative structures, upgrading digital systems, and investing in leadership capacity to support its growth.

He explained that Aletheia University is building a culture anchored on discipline, innovation, and a fourfold training model focused on academic excellence, professional skills, entrepreneurial readiness, and ethical development.

“This ceremony represents more than formal admission into the university. It is a structured affirmation of progress, purpose, and institutional continuity.

“To our matriculating students, you are entering a system that demands discipline, focus, and consistency. Success here will not be accidental,” he said.

He assured the students of the university’s support in helping them achieve academic and personal excellence, while urging them to remain focused throughout their studies.

The Vice-Chancellor also commended the founder and Chancellor of the university, Maj.-Gen. Sansadeen Awosanya (rtd.), for his vision in establishing the institution, describing it as one that is reshaping higher education in Nigeria.

The Chancellor, in his remarks, charged the students to see their admission as both a privilege and a responsibility, stressing that education should produce responsible citizens capable of contributing to national development.

“True education must produce not only sound minds but responsible citizens who are conscious of their role in building a sustainable future,” he said.

Pro-Chancellor Dr. Onikepo Akande described the institution’s growth as steady and promising, urging students to take advantage of available academic opportunities.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included members of the Board of Trustees, among them Mrs Adeola Simon, Prof. Saburi Adesanya, Mr Biodun Awosanya, and Mr Kola Abdul, as well as the Ogun State Coordinator and Deputy Director of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board), Hakeem AbdulHameed.

As part of the matriculation activities, the university also launched a tree-planting exercise aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, with the Chancellor officially flagging off the initiative.

The university said the exercise forms part of its broader commitment to responsible development and environmental stewardship.
