Israel Hits Iran’s Largest Petrochemical Hub Ahead of Trump Deadline

David Egbede, April 6, 2026April 6, 2026

Israel has launched a major military strike on Iran’s largest petrochemical facility, significantly escalating tensions in the ongoing conflict.

According to Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, the operation targeted the facility in Asaluyeh, which accounts for nearly half of Iran’s petrochemical output.

He stated that the military had “just carried out a powerful strike on the largest petrochemical facility in Iran.”

Iran’s Fars news agency reported multiple explosions in the area on Monday, confirming the impact on the strategic energy hub.

The strike follows earlier attacks in March on the South Pars gas field—one of the most critical assets in Iran’s energy sector—which prompted retaliatory strikes by Tehran on oil and gas infrastructure in Gulf Arab states.

The latest development comes just ahead of a deadline issued by former US President Donald Trump, who had warned of possible strikes on Iranian energy facilities if no peace agreement is reached.

Meanwhile, both Washington and Tehran are said to be reviewing new ceasefire proposals put forward by mediators, raising hopes for a possible de-escalation despite the rising hostilities.
