Iranian Drones Hit Key UAE Oil Facility and Dubai Airport

David Egbede, March 16, 2026March 16, 2026

Drone strikes from Iran hit the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone (FOIZ), the UAE’s largest port and oil storage facility, igniting a fire.

No casualties were reported on Monday, as the Fujairah media office confirmed that specialised teams were quickly deployed to contain the situation.

Located on the UAE’s eastern coast along the Gulf of Oman, Fujairah is outside the Persian Gulf, allowing vessels to reach it without passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

The UAE, which produced over 3.4 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude before the conflict, operates a 1.5 million bpd pipeline that can bypass Hormuz. Disruptions at Fujairah could force the major crude producer to cut more output, given the Strait remains largely closed to exports under Iranian control.

Although Iran has repeatedly claimed it does not intend to strike neighbouring countries and aims only at US military bases, drone attacks have continued to target Gulf transport and oil infrastructure.

In a separate incident hours later, Dubai International Airport experienced a “drone-related incident,” causing flights to be temporarily suspended after a fire broke out near the airport.

Officials reported that Iran has launched more than 1,900 missiles and drones at the UAE since the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran began last month.
