INEC Meets Political Parties to Discuss 2027 Election Guidelines

Rejoice Ewodage, March 24, 2026March 24, 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is holding a meeting with leaders of political parties at its headquarters in Abuja as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.

In attendance are chairmen and secretaries of several political parties, alongside designated representatives. Senator Nenadi Usman is representing the Labour Party, while Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu attend on behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The focus of the meeting is the newly drafted INEC electoral guidelines, created to align with the recently enacted Electoral Act 2026. The updated guidelines aim to provide political parties and other stakeholders with a clear framework to operate under the new legal provisions.

According to the INEC Chairman, the revised guidelines reflect the changes introduced by the 2026 Electoral Act, noting that political parties and other stakeholders cannot effectively navigate the electoral process using the previous rules.

The commission said the consultations are part of its efforts to ensure a transparent, credible, and well-coordinated electoral process for the upcoming general elections.
