“I’d Have Shot him Through the TV” — Nyesom Wike Reacts to Seun Okinbaloye’s One-Party State Comment

David Egbede, April 4, 2026April 4, 2026

Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has criticised Seun Okinbaloye over comments suggesting Nigeria may be drifting towards a one-party state.

Reacting during a media chat in Abuja, Wike expressed anger over Okinbaloye’s remarks on Politics Today, saying: “If there was any way to break the screen, I would have shot him.”

The minister accused the Channels Television host of bias, adding: “How can you, as an interviewer, say we cannot have only one party? You are an interviewer; you are now telling them your own views.”

He continued: “There is nothing wrong with asking your interviewee questions. But you are now the one on national television making that kind of statement, which means you have already taken a position.”

Okinbaloye had earlier warned that Nigeria risks being “doomed democratically” if opposition struggles—especially within the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—undermine competitiveness ahead of the 2027 elections.
