Health Workers Protest in Abuja, Oppose Regulatory Bill

David Egbede, March 26, 2026March 26, 2026

Health workers, organized under the Joint Health Sector Unions and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations, are currently staging a protest at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.

The demonstration is aimed at opposing the proposed Health Sector Regulatory Bill currently before the National Assembly.

The protesters argue that, if passed, the bill would place all medical professions under the regulatory authority of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, a move they strongly reject.

They declared that health professions have their regulatory bodies, and that the new bill was seeking to make other health professionals second-class to medical doctors.

The protesters also plan to go to the National Assembly, where they hope to present their case to lawmakers.
