Goronyo Pledges Roads, Water, Solar Support for Federal University Dutse

Soliu Oyesiji, April 15, 2026April 15, 2026

Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, has assured the Federal University Dutse of federal intervention in key infrastructure areas, including roads, water supply and solar energy.

Goronyo gave the assurance in Abuja while receiving the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmad Muhammed Gumel, and members of the university’s management team during a courtesy visit.

The minister, who congratulated the vice-chancellor on his appointment, described the institution as a young university that requires strong support from critical stakeholders to grow.

“Education remains a top priority under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu because it is the foundation of national development,” he said.

On infrastructure, Goronyo pledged to escalate the university’s request for road projects to the Minister of Works, David Umahi, while also leveraging his oversight role at the Federal Road Maintenance Agency to support the institution.

“I will present your request on road infrastructure to the senior minister and also see what can be done through FERMA to support the university,” he said.

The minister further promised to liaise with the Ministry of Water Resources to address water challenges on campus.

“We will engage the relevant authorities to ensure the university benefits from water projects that will improve living and learning conditions for students,” he added.

On power supply, Goronyo said he would take up the university’s solar energy needs with the Rural Electrification Agency, noting that the federal government is already implementing pilot electrification projects in tertiary institutions.

He also encouraged the university management to seek partnerships with other ministries and agencies to accelerate development.

Earlier, Gumel thanked the minister for granting the meeting despite short notice, stressing that the university urgently requires support in roads, hostels, water and renewable energy.

“Though young, the university has distinguished itself and continues to perform strongly, even compared to older institutions,” he said, while commending the minister for his efforts in office.
