The Federal Government has emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between the information and agriculture sectors to improve public awareness of agricultural policies and food security initiatives.
This was highlighted during a strategic engagement between the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre on Friday.
Speaking at the meeting, the Permanent Secretary of the Agriculture Ministry stressed the importance of effective communication in ensuring that farmers and other stakeholders fully understand government programmes.
According to him, agriculture remains central to national development and food security, adding that improved coordination between both ministries would strengthen public awareness of key policies and interventions.
He said the engagement was aimed at strengthening cooperation and improving how government initiatives are communicated to citizens.
“Agriculture remains central to national development and food security. Clear and coordinated information dissemination will help farmers and stakeholders better understand and benefit from government initiatives,” he said.
Also speaking, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, underscored the crucial role of the media in promoting government programmes and ensuring citizens are adequately informed about agricultural initiatives.
He noted that accurate and timely dissemination of information would help build public confidence and encourage wider participation in programmes designed to improve food production and economic growth.
“The media plays a critical role in promoting government policies and ensuring citizens are well informed about agricultural programmes aimed at improving food production and economic growth,” the minister said.
Idris further reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the agriculture sector through strategic communication and sustained public engagement.
In his remarks, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, reiterated the Federal Government’s determination to strengthen the agricultural value chain and achieve national food security.
He said enhanced collaboration with the information ministry would help amplify awareness of government interventions and encourage more participation in the agricultural sector.
“Improved collaboration with the Ministry of Information will help amplify awareness of government interventions, support farmers, and attract more participation in the sector,” Kyari said.
The minister also called on stakeholders, including the media, to support efforts aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and building sustainable food systems across the country.
