The Nigeria Police Force in the Federal Capital Territory has cautioned content creators against spreading misleading videos capable of causing panic, following the arrest of a TikToker behind a viral clip alleging a terrorist invasion of Abuja.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed that the suspect, identified as Pam Joseph, was tracked to Bwari and arrested after posting the false video.
The footage, which circulated widely online, falsely claimed that terrorists had stormed the capital, with gunshots “raining heavily” in parts of the city.
According to the CP, the suspect admitted fabricating the story to gain attention on social media.
“When we got the video, we conducted a forensic analysis and got the picture of the person behind the voice.
“Our men looked for him and luckily apprehended him in a village in Bwari. We asked him the motive behind the video, he said he did it just to get followers on TikTok.
“All content creators should note that the police have advanced. If you put out a false video, we will look for you wherever you are hiding and get you arrested.
“Stop creating panic in the city. Saying that terrorists invaded Abuja is not a joke,” the CP said.
